Matlab

Matlab is a specialized environment for numerical computing, widely used in engineering and research. The name stands for "Matrix Laboratory" — matrices and vectors are the language's core data structures.

Typical applications

Matlab is used for data analysis, algorithm development, signal processing, and simulation — anywhere a mathematical model needs to be turned directly into executable code.

Simulink

Alongside the scripting language itself, Simulink provides a graphical interface for modeling and simulating dynamic systems, such as in control engineering.

Why it's still standard

Because it maps so closely onto mathematical notation, Matlab remains the go-to tool at universities and in many engineering departments for fast numerical prototyping and analysis.
